This ear examination video identifies wax impaction in the external auditory canal.

Cerumen (ear wax) impaction is defined as an accumulation of cerumen that causes symptoms, prevents the assessment of the ear or both.

This particular Clear Ears patient has their ears cleaned by the technique of micro suction and curettage every 6 months.

Without a regular clean, the external auditory canal continues to accumulate with wax.

Without regular cleaning by micro suction and curettage, the patient experiences symptoms of ear wax impaction including;

  • Change in hearing
  • A blocked sensation in the ear
  • Increased tinnitus.
  • Itchy ears
  • Ear pain or discomfort

She has known narrow ear canals diagnosed by her General Practitioner which is the likely cause of cerumen impaction .
