Professional Microsuction Ear Cleaning

Our team at Clear Ears are all qualified healthcare professionals who have been trained in the use of microsuction and curettage techniques to clean your ears gently and safely.
Your treating Healthcare Professional will discuss and assess your ear health, clean your ears and provide education on looking after your ears and managing your ear wax.
The procedure is conducted in line with all relevant Australian Standards and with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
*The use of a wax softener or olive oil drops for the 3 days prior to your appointment is strongly recommended
1. Questions & Inspections
Your treating Nurse will discuss your health, and your ear health with you, and then proceed with assessment using the speculum and loupes.
2. Wax Removal via Microsuction
Your Nurse attaches the suction catheter to the suction unit and begins the earwax or blockage removal process. This can generate noise and does require the patient to keep their head still.
3. Wax Removal via Other Methods
A curette or forceps may be used to gently remove any wax or blockage that is in the ear canal that cannot be removed by microsuction.
What Happens Next?
For the majority of our Clients, a single appointment will resolve the immediate issue.
If you have an extensive amount of wax or very hard wax, further softening and a subsequent follow up appointment in the next 1-2 weeks may be required. This is provided at a 50% discount.
On occasion your treating Healthcare Professional may have concerns that your ear issue is more than simple ear wax. They will recommend you see your GP for assessment, medical treatment and potentially referral to an Ears Nose & Throat Specialist. Consultation notes are provided to your GP with permission.
If you wear hearing aids or have significant wax build up regular maintenance appointments are recommended. The frequency required will vary from individual to individual but in general will be 3 monthly, 6 monthly or yearly. Some individuals may require more frequent visits. Discount 3 packs are available.
